The problem

The biggest threat to healthy ageing isn't age. It's inactivity.

After age 50, adults lose between 3–5% of muscle strength every year without regular resistance training.

As strength declines, everyday tasks become harder, and the risk of falls, disease and loss of independence rises.

In Australia, fewer than 1 in 4 adults meet the physical activity guidelines, and activity levels fall further with every decade.

The good news? Most of this is preventable.

Meet the Founder

Beau Harris, Senior Physiotherapist

I'm passionate about helping people stay active, independent and doing the things they love for as long as possible.

After working with thousands of people recovering from injury and managing long-term conditions, I realised healthcare often begins after physical decline has already occurred. I founded 8 Strides to change that, to build strength before problems develop, not just treat them afterwards.

Why it matters

The biggest threat to ageing well isn't age. It's inactivity.

From our 50s, we lose muscle strength each year without regular resistance training. As strength fades, everyday tasks get harder and the risk of falls and losing independence rises.

The good news: most of this is preventable, and it's never too late to start.

Our mission

Getting every Australian to the physical activity guidelines.

They are not an aspiration for athletes. They are the minimum dose of movement the evidence says a body needs, and most Australians fall short of them.

2 days a week

Muscle-strengthening activity

Resistance training that challenges every major muscle group. This is the part most commonly skipped, and the part that protects your bones, joints and independence.

150 minutes weekly

Moderate aerobic movement

Up to 300 minutes, or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous activity, spread across most days. Over 65, the focus shifts to 30 minutes most days plus balance work.

Running

Physio built for runners

Running loads your body in ways nothing else does. Whether you're chasing a first 5k, a marathon PB or coming back from injury, we assess your strength, running mechanics and training load in person, then build a plan that keeps you on the road.

Around 8 in 10 running injuries come from training error and overload, not weakness alone, so we focus on smart load management, targeted strength and a structured return-to-run pathway rather than endless rest.

Physio that understands runners

Running is one of the most common reasons people end up in our Brisbane clinic, and one of the most preventable. Whether you're a new runner building towards your first fun run, a parkrun regular, or an experienced marathoner chasing a PB, running physiotherapy at 8 Strides is built around your training load, biomechanics and goals.

We don't just settle the pain and send you off. We find why the injury happened, rebuild your capacity, and get you back to running with a clear plan so it doesn't keep coming back.

Common running injuries we treat in Brisbane

Most running injuries are load-related and respond well to the right assessment and programming. These are the ones we see most often:

Golf demands mobility, rotation and stability, and asks you to repeat a complex movement dozens of times a round. When something in that chain is stiff or weak, your body compensates, and that's where pain and lost distance come from. Questions

Before you sign up

Do I need to be fast or experienced?+

No. The Founding 50 is open to everyone from newer runners to competitive racers. Your program is built around where you are now, not where anyone else is.

What if I'm currently injured?+

That's fine, and it's exactly what the physio side is for. Your initial assessment takes it into account, and your plan includes the rehab and load management to keep you running.

What does the online option include?+

A telehealth assessment and retest, your running and strength programs, filmed workshops on demand, progress tracking and daily physio access, all through the platform. The weekly group runs are Brisbane only.

What does it cost?+

Joining the waitlist is free. If you take up a place, the platform is $20 a week for the 12 weeks, and physio sessions are $130 each.

Can I claim private health?+

Yes, private health rebates can be claimed on the day for your physio sessions, depending on your level of extras cover.

Am I committing to anything by signing up?+

No. Joining the list just means we'll be in touch with more information. You decide whether to take up a place after that.

Want to be involved?

Become a founding member

Founding members get early access to the platform and help shape how it develops, from the running and strength programs to the education and support behind them.

You'll be among the first to use it, with your feedback directly influencing what gets built and what gets changed. In practice that means a strength and running assessment, a program built around your goals, and physiotherapy support behind it while you train.

There's no cost to join the wait list and no obligation to commit to the program. Tell us a little about your running and we'll be in touch with the next steps.

Meet the founder

Beau Harris

Founder & Senior Physiotherapist

For me, 8 Strides is personal. My dad has always been my hero. He was an athlete who competed in qualifications for the Olympics, yet he was diagnosed with bowel cancer at a young age. Since then he has developed type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, had a number of skin cancers removed, and is now dealing with the effects of sarcopenia, age-related muscle loss. Watching ageing and chronic disease take their toll on someone so strong, and the thought of one day not having him around, is something that stays with me every day.

It's also what drives me with everyone I see. I know the people I work with have loved ones who depend on them and want as much time with them as possible. That's why I see strength and exercise as an investment, one that lets you keep enjoying tomorrow.

I assess every client personally, build your program around objective testing and stay with you through the whole journey, guiding, adjusting and supporting you between sessions through the 8 Strides platform. You won't be doing this alone.

Step 01 — Understand where you are starting

A complete picture of your health, strength and movement.

Before we prescribe your program, we need to understand you.

Your first assessment combines a detailed physiotherapy assessment with objective measures of strength, fitness, movement and body composition. This gives us a clear starting point and lets your program be built around your individual needs, goals and capacity.

What we assess

{{ c.t }}

{{ c.d }}

We don't guess where you are. We measure it.

Two people of the same age can have completely different levels of strength, fitness and physical capacity.

Objective testing gives us measurable data rather than relying only on how you feel. This allows us to:

Your starting point becomes your benchmark

Your first assessment isn't a one-off appointment. It creates the baseline that we return to throughout your 8 Strides journey.

Step 02 — Build your plan

Exercise designed around you.

Your assessment gives us the information we need to build a personalised exercise program around your goals, current capacity, health, preferences and lifestyle.

Your physiotherapist then guides you through the program so you know exactly what to do and why you're doing it.

Your program is personalised

Know what to do. Know how to do it. Know why it matters.

Your physiotherapist introduces you to your program and ensures you understand the exercises, technique, appropriate intensity and progression. The goal is to give you confidence and independence.

You shouldn't need to wonder:

Your system is designed to answer these questions.

The five pillars

Every program is built across five pillars

Staying strong for life takes more than one kind of training. Your personalised plan draws on every system that keeps you moving, capable and independent.

Step 03 — Your health, connected

Your program. Your progress. Your physiotherapist.

The 8 Strides Health Platform connects your exercise program, education, progress and physiotherapy support in one place.

It keeps your health journey connected between appointments, not just when you're in the clinic.

Everything in one place

Support between sessions.

Traditional healthcare can be fragmented. You see someone, receive advice and then leave. 8 Strides is designed to keep the relationship connected.

Your physiotherapist can monitor your progress, review your data, communicate with you and make changes to your program when needed. This creates a continuous feedback loop:

Technology supports the clinical relationship

Better information. Better support.

Technology doesn't replace your physiotherapist. It gives your physiotherapist better information and gives you better support between appointments.

Your data helps us understand what is happening between reviews, allowing your exercise program to evolve with you.

Step 04 — Measure, review & progress

Your program should change as you do.

Progress isn't just about completing exercises.

We track meaningful changes in your strength, fitness, movement and overall physical capacity, then use that information to guide your next phase.

What we track

{{ c.t }}

{{ c.d }}

Your program evolves with you.

Your physiotherapist reviews your progress and considers what has changed since your previous assessment.

Your program may then be progressed, modified or adjusted based on your results, goals and current capacity. This means you're never simply following the same program indefinitely.

One continuous system, for life

Then repeat the loop.

The goal isn't to exercise for 12 weeks.

The goal is to build the capacity to live well for decades.

8 Strides is designed around long-term health. We want you to become stronger, fitter and more physically capable, and to understand how to maintain that capacity throughout life.
